Accusing the central government, led by the BJP, of abusing its power and manipulating central agencies, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel claimed that the government would promptly take action against him if given the opportunity.
On Friday, CM Baghel stated, “They are not getting any chance (to arrest me); otherwise, are they going to leave me? They are misusing their powers.” He made these comments in response to inquiries about the possibility of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which had recently targeted bureaucrats and individuals closely associated with him.
CM Baghel denounced the recent actions of the ED as part of a conspiracy, asserting that the BJP, lacking attractive programs or policies, was consistently attempting to malign the state government. “They (referring to the opposition BJP in the state) are no longer capable of competing. After being in power for 15 years, they became accustomed to enjoying privileges and are now not in a position to fight. Therefore, they are engaging in defamatory acts against the government without substantiating any claims,” he added.
Regarding the recent raids by the central agency on rice millers in Chhattisgarh, which occurred just before the scheduled paddy procurement drive starting from November 1, CM Baghel criticized the move as an attempt to tarnish the image of the Chhattisgarh government. He expressed his concern that these actions could adversely affect the financial interests of farmers.
The Election Commission had announced the schedule for the upcoming state elections. The first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh is set for November 7, while the remaining 70 seats will go to polls on November 17.
