In the wake of the Tata Group’s ownership, the Air India Group is embarking on a significant expansion journey. The group, consisting of Air India, Air India Express, AIX Connect, and Vistara, is set to welcome a new aircraft every six days on average until the end of 2024, according to Air India’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson.

This expansion is part of Tata’s ongoing efforts to streamline its airline business after taking control of Air India in January 2022. Earlier this year, Air India placed substantial orders for 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, amounting to USD 70 billion. The delivery of these new planes is scheduled to commence in November this year.
As a part of the group’s restructuring, Air India Express is in the process of merging with AirAsia India, and Vistara is poised to merge with Air India. Wilson noted that the merger of Air India Express and AIX Connect is making significant progress, with the legal processes typically taking 6-9 months. The group is optimistic about finalizing the merger by March of the next year.
Air India Express has also recently unveiled a fresh brand identity and aircraft livery, featuring vibrant shades of orange and Aquagreen. This marks an exciting phase for the group’s expansion plans under Tata’s ownership.
