The residents of Charangaon, a village in Maharashtra’s Akola district, have taken a stand by banning the entry of Political leaders into their community until the long-awaited Maratha quota is officially declared in the state. This decision, which comes as a response to the demand for reservations in jobs and education, has gather attention as a symbol of the residents’ determination to secure a better future for their community.
Charangaon, located in Patur taluka, is the first area in Akola to implement such a ban, and it has sent a powerful message to both political leaders and the state government. A prominent sign at the village’s entrance proclaims that no leader from any political party will be allowed access until the Maratha quota is officially established.
One of the villagers explained the sentiment behind this move, stating, “If political leaders can think about the future of their children, why not us? And for that, we need reservations.” This sentiment reflects the deep-rooted desire of the Maratha community for equal opportunities and access to benefits that reservations can provide.
The ban on political leaders’ entry into Charangaon serves as a reminder of the persistent issue of reservations and the pressing need for its implementation. It is also a call to action for the state government to address the concerns of the Maratha community and work towards a solution that will provide them with a fair chance at education and employment opportunities.
