CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke says his Instagram account ‘hacked’, backup account also taken down

Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of India’s Gen-Z led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), said on Friday that his Instagram account was “hacked” and he was unable to access it. He also said that the backup Instagram account for the CJP was taken down by Meta.

The party, formed a day after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s remarks using the terms “parasites” and “cockroaches” on May 15, quickly gained attention online and went viral. It drew support from politicians, activists, artists, and a large number of social media users across different age groups.

Although the CJI later clarified that he had been misquoted and that his remarks were aimed specifically at people entering the legal profession using “fake and bogus degrees”, the CJP, which adopted the insect as its symbol, rapidly gained traction across social media.

In a post on X on Friday, Dipke said that his Instagram account “has been hacked”. “@Meta, I have lost access to my Instagram account. Trying to recover it but unable to” he wrote in another post.

Meta is yet to issue a statement on the matter.

In another post, Dipke wrote that the backup Instagram account of the CJP has also been taken down. Notably, the official account of the party has over 21 million followers.

On Thursday, the X account of the Cockroach Janta Party was withheld in India. The account, with username CJP_2029, is showing ‘Account Withheld’ in bold letters, followed by “@CJP_2029 has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”

The rise of CJP

The Cockroach Janta Party was set up by Abhijeet Dipke following criticism online over CJI Surya Kant’s remarks, in which some unemployed youth were compared to “cockroaches” and “parasites”.

The satirical political group says people can join if they are “unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and ability to rant professionally”.

CJP’s ‘founding president’, Abhijeet Dipke, is a 30-year-old political communication strategist. He had earlier worked with the Aam Aadmi Party and was involved in the party’s social media and election campaign operations.
