“Security increased in Delhi and Mumbai Following Blasts at Jehovah’s Witnesses Prayer Meeting”

One dead and dozens injured in the blasts as Delhi and Mumbai bolster security amidst festive season concerns and the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident in Kerala.

An explosion occurred during a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a convention center in Kerala’s Kalamassery. This tragic event has result in increasing security measures in the National capital, Delhi, and the bustling city of Mumbai. 

On the final day of a three-day prayer meet, attended by nearly 2,000 people, one person lost their life, and 36 others were injured when the explosions happened in the convention center, situated about 10 kilometers from Kochi. Kerala Police have confirmed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the attack, with reports indicating that the explosive was hide in a tiffin box.

The Delhi Police has responded quickly by increasing security in crowded areas throughout the city, considering the gravity of the blasts. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is collaborating closely with intelligence agencies to ensure the safety of the capital’s residents. Security arrangements are being put in place at crowded locations.

Along with Delhi additionally the Mumbai Police has issued a high alert in light of the festive season, upcoming  World cup matches, and the recent incidents in Kerala. The ongoing Israel-Hamas war has already led to enhanced security at Chabad House, a Jewish center in Mumbai.

Following the explosions, Home Minister Amit Shah had a conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Home Minister ordered the heads of two key central agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), to deploy specialized teams to investigate the incident. Both the NIA and NSG have expertise in counterterrorism investigations and operations.

Kerala Police is taking the matter seriously and has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case. The focus will be on uncovering the details of the attack and identifying those responsible.
