Yesterday around 4 pm, there was a shaking of the ground in nearby areas, including Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). This shaking is called “earthquake tremors.” It can make buildings and things move for a little while and it can feel scary and unsettling for people. Earthquakes happen because of movements under the Earth’s surface and they can sometimes be felt in the areas nearby. It’s important to stay safe during such events by taking cover and being prepared.
Yesterday around 4 pm there was shaking on the ground in North India, including Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). This shaking was caused by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 and it was centred underground in Faridabad, Haryana, about 10 kilometres deep.
Just a few days earlier on October 3, there were also earthquake tremors in North India, including Delhi. The centre of that earthquake was in Nepal.
Earthquakes happen when there’s movement beneath the Earth’s surface, which can cause the ground to shake. Sometimes, these movements can be felt in areas far from where they originated like in Delhi and its neighbouring regions. It’s important to be aware of these events and be prepared to stay safe if they occur.
On October 3 there was an earthquake in Nepal with a magnitude of 6.2. This strong earthquake caused tremors in many parts of North India including Delhi and the surrounding areas. It happened in two stages. First there was a magnitude 4.2 earthquake at 2:20 PM and then a stronger one, the 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
The shaking from the 6.2 magnitude earthquake lasted for quite a while, and it made people in Delhi and nearby areas very scared. Similar tremors happened again yesterday, but they were not as strong. it reminded people of the earlier more powerful earthquake. Earthquakes can be unsettling and frightening because the ground moves and it’s important to be prepared and stay safe during such events.
