On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened a new transportation corridor called the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut PRTS (Public Rapid Transit System) corridor. Starting this Saturday morning, a new type of train service called “Semi-High Speed Namo-Bharat” will begin on a 17-kilometer section of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) rail corridor. This train service will be faster than regular trains, making travel quicker. It’s a part of a bigger project, and this 17-kilometer section is the first part open to the public. It’s a step towards improving transportation in the region.

The new trains in the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTP) scheme have been given the name ‘Namo Bharat.’ The very first set of these ‘Namo Bharat’ trains will start operating on the Delhi-Meerut route beginning from this Saturday, October 21. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched these trains on the day before, which was Friday. It means that these special trains are now available for the public to use for travel between Delhi and Meerut.
The RRTP scheme is all about making local travel faster and more comfortable. In the first phase of this plan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for a 17-kilometer road connecting Delhi Ghaziabad and Meerut on March 8, 2019. Now he’s inaugurating the first part of this route between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations. The stations on this route are Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai.
RRTPs are medium-speed trains that can go as fast as 180 kilometers per hour. In this scheme, trains will run frequently with one coming every 5 to 15 minutes. There are eight such routes planned in the national capital area with priority given to the Delhi-Meerut Delhi-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat routes. This means people in these areas will have more convenient and faster train options for their daily commutes.
