On October 16th, Israel emphasized the possibility of a protracted but successful conflict against Hamas, while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged unwavering support during his second visit to Israel within a few days following a significant attack.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet in Tel Aviv, air raid sirens were triggered, and all participants were swiftly taken to a bunker for safety. There were sounds of the US-supported Iron Dome system intercepting a rocket during this incident. Israel is preparing for a potential ground invasion of Hamas-controlled Gaza after a recent attack, resulting in ongoing bombardment of the blockaded territory, with civilians bearing the brunt of the casualties on both sides.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the evident robust support from the US, citing the visits by Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as well as the deployment of two US aircraft carriers to the Mediterranean. Gallant affirmed the determination to win the conflict for Israel, the Jewish people, and the shared values of the two countries. Blinken reiterated the United States’ firm commitment to Israel’s right and obligation to defend itself.
