Heavy rain in Mumbai caused big problems for people who live in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on Wednesday. While the main part of Mumbai itself was not as affected the surrounding areas had a tough time. Mumbai had a lot of rain which led to some serious issues. The heavy rain made the suburban trains which many people use for commuting slow down. Some of these trains even stopped running for a while. The rain and the train issues made it really hard for people to go about their usual daily activities. It created a lot of problems. In addition to the train troubles some areas also had problems with their electricity. They experienced power cuts, which means their lights and appliances stopped working. On the Central Railway which is a major train network officials had to cancel 100 train services on both the Main and Harbour lines. This caused more difficulties for commuters.
On a particular day, there were some problems on the Mumbai-Pune rail route. Specifically, the section between Ambernath and Badlapur had issues. Because of these issues the trains that usually run on this part of the track couldn’t operate for nearly seven hours. This caused disruptions and as a result Central Railway (CR) officials had to cancel 100 train services on both the Main and Harbour lines in Mumbai.
Starting on Wednesday morning, there were issues with the suburban trains on the Main and Harbour lines of Central Railway (CR) in Mumbai. The first problem occurred on the CSMT-Panvel Harbour line. There was a point failure at Panvel at around 9:40 am, and it was fixed by 10:05 am. this disruption caused a ripple effect affecting train services on the Belapur-Panvel section. As a result it caused delays and problems with the timing of trains during the busy morning rush hours.
According to the commuters, the trains on the Harbour line were delayed by about 15 minutes during the first part of the day. Getting to the train station was challenging because of heavy waterlogging in the area. Once at the station, the trains going toward CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) were not running and this caused a problem for the commuters. Sudhakar Patangrao, a resident of Badlapur and a member of the Badlapur Rail Passenger Association expressed these difficulties.
