In the recent legal developments surrounding the case of Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi and a prominent figure in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Supreme Court has provisionally confirmed the presence of one aspect of the alleged ₹338 crore transfer. Consequently, the court has denied bail to Sisodia. This decision has prompted BJP leaders, including Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala, to suggest that Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal might also face potential arrest in connection with the case.
Manoj Tiwari emphasized that the rejection of Sisodia’s bail by the trial court, the high court, and now the Supreme Court suggests the involvement of senior AAP leaders in the purported liquor scam, potentially leading to the apprehension of Kejriwal and other high-ranking AAP members.
Shehzad Poonawala echoed these sentiments, raising questions about how long Kejriwal could continue to defend those implicated in the case. Poonawala further recommended that Kejriwal should step down immediately, not only for allegedly shielding the accused but also due to his potential involvement in the corruption scandal.
The decision by the bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti to reject Sisodia’s bail plea has dealt a substantial blow to Sisodia’s legal defense in both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases. The panel indicated that if the trial progresses slowly over the next few months, Sisodia could seek bail. Consequently, Sisodia might remain in custody for at least another three months, pending the progress of the trial.
