New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Saturday reacted strongly to Rajya Sabha MPs joining the BJP, calling the development unconstitutional and against parliamentary rules.
He alleged that the manner in which the MPs joined the BJP violated constitutional provisions and the anti-defection law. Singh said, “Seven people announced joining the BJP in a manner that was unconstitutional, illegal, and against the rules. This is completely wrong legally.”
Citing the anti-defection law, he added, “The anti-defection law clearly states that any kind of split or factional breakaway is not allowed in the Assembly, Rajya Sabha, or Lok Sabha, and has no constitutional validity.”
Reiterating his stand, Singh said the decision of the MPs was invalid and demanded strict action. “The seven Rajya Sabha MPs of the Aam Aadmi Party who have defected–this is illegal, wrong, unconstitutional, and against parliamentary rules,” he said.
He further announced plans to escalate the matter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman. “That is why today I will write to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Hon’ble Vice President, citing all these rules, requesting that the membership of all seven of these Rajya Sabha MPs be terminated completely,” Singh said.
He also alleged that some of the MPs were seen with the BJP leadership ahead of their formal joining. “Out of them, at least three were clearly seen going to the BJP office yesterday,” he added.
This came after the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major setback after its Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, who was removed as the party’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha earlier, joined the rival BJP on Friday.
While addressing a presser in the national capital on Friday, Chadha formalised a split that had been building for weeks, announcing that two-thirds of the party’s Upper House members would merge with the BJP.
The move triggered furious reactions from AAP leaders while drawing a warm welcome from the BJP.

Furthermore, BJP National President Nitin Nabin welcomed the Rajya Sabha MPs at the BJP Headquarters in Delhi after they joined the Bhartiya Janata Party.
