Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Nabin and a delegation from Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party discussed youth participation, party organization and India–Nepal relations in New Delhi on June 2, 2026. Despite the headline’s reference to India’s viral Cockroach Janta Party phenomenon, BJP sources said that group was not discussed at the meeting.
A party-to-party visit
The RSP delegation was led by chairman Rabi Lamichhane and visited BJP headquarters through the ruling Indian party’s “Know BJP” outreach initiative. BJP foreign-affairs department head Vijay Chauthaiwale said the exchange covered the BJP’s organizational journey, membership process, candidate selection and structure from the national level to individual polling booths.
Other BJP participants included Arun Singh, Sanjay Jaiswal and Chauthaiwale. A separate lunch interaction involved Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several members of Parliament. Public descriptions emphasized historic cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Nepal and interest in additional party engagement.
What was said about Gen Z
According to accounts attributed to BJP participants, Nabin argued that the energy of younger citizens has significant potential when channelled into constructive democratic participation. The RSP side connected youth engagement with Nepal’s political transition. A BJP statement said the leaders discussed Gen Z’s growing role in shaping public debate and future leadership.
These are political characterizations, not neutral measurements of an entire generation. People born across a broad span of years do not share one ideology, and social-media visibility does not necessarily translate into voter registration, turnout, party membership or durable policy influence.
Why the “cockroach” reference appeared
India’s Cockroach Janta Party, founded by U.S.-based student Abhijeet Dipke, had rapidly attracted attention online and announced a Delhi protest over examination-related grievances. Established political parties were watching the movement as a possible sign of younger voters’ frustration.
However, people familiar with the BJP–RSP meeting said the CJP itself was not mentioned. Linking the two developments can provide political context, but reporting must not imply a discussion that participants deny occurred. The documented common subject was the broader role of young people in democratic politics.
What the meeting can and cannot show
Party diplomacy can build informal communication and help organizations compare campaign structures. It is distinct from official government-to-government negotiation, which is handled through ministries, diplomatic missions and formal agreements. A meeting between party leaders therefore should not be presented as changing border, trade or security policy.
It also does not establish endorsement of every practice or position of the other party. The BJP and RSP operate in different political systems and answer to different electorates. Public statements from such visits tend to stress common ground, while disagreements may remain private.
The larger youth-politics test
Young citizens’ influence is better assessed through verifiable outcomes: enrolment, turnout, candidate selection, issue campaigns and whether institutions respond to education, employment, corruption and digital-rights concerns. Online follower counts can be inflated, geographically dispersed or short-lived.
The June 2026 visit showed that both parties considered youth engagement important and wanted deeper organizational dialogue. It did not establish that the CJP was on the agenda or that either party had captured Gen Z support. Those distinctions preserve the significance of the meeting without turning a broad exchange into a claim unsupported by its participants.
