BARCELONA, September 1 — FC Barcelona beat Rayo Vallecano 5–2 on Monday after recovering from an early deficit, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each scoring twice. A Florian Lejeune own goal supplied the other Barcelona goal as the champions made it three La Liga wins from three.
Rayo struck first
Sergio Camello gave Rayo the lead after Álvaro García broke down the left and cut the ball into his path. It was Barcelona’s first league goal conceded this season and forced Hansi Flick’s side to chase the game rather than control it from ahead.
The response was immediate. Raphinha cut inside and drove a low shot across the goalkeeper in the 19th minute. Lamine then put Barcelona ahead with a left-footed finish from the edge of the area. The club said it was his 50th first-team goal and that no Barcelona player had reached the mark at a younger age.
The second half stayed open
Six minutes after the restart, Anthony Gordon drove a low ball across goal and Lejeune turned it into his own net. Rayo did not disappear: Camello headed in from a corner eight minutes later to reduce the margin to 3–2.
Raphinha restored the two-goal cushion after a long pass from Jules Kounde and a back-heel in the build-up from Gordon. Lamine completed his brace in the 90th minute, guiding the final goal inside the post.
What the result changes
The club’s match report records three victories from Barcelona’s opening three league fixtures. The scoreline demonstrates its attacking depth, but the match also supplied two warnings: Rayo created the first breakthrough and again came within one goal after halftime.
Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim came on late for his competitive Barcelona debut. The next scheduled league assignment is away to Valencia on Sunday, when the defensive transitions that Rayo exposed will be tested again.
