OTTAWA, September 1 — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a national Class 2 recall notification for Compliments Smashed 100% Chicken Burgers because egg is not declared on affected labels. People with an egg allergy should identify the product by its brand, name, pack size, UPC and ingredient label — not by a generic burger photograph.

What consumers and businesses should do
CFIA’s instruction is: do not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product. Consumers should check the UPC and whether egg appears on the label. A package that looks similar but has a different UPC is not automatically included in this notice; an affected UPC is not cleared merely because its best-before date looks different, since the notice covers all codes where egg is undeclared.
People with an egg allergy can experience reactions ranging from mild symptoms to a medical emergency. Anyone who believes they are having a severe allergic reaction should seek emergency medical help.
Undeclared-allergen recalls are especially important because the product may appear ordinary to a buyer who relies on the ingredient list. Cooking does not make the labelling problem disappear, and sharing the food with another person can expose someone whose allergy is unknown to the purchaser.

The notice gives recall date August 27, identification number RA-82572 and CFIA ID 17520. It classifies the action as Class 2. The notification does not state in the displayed summary that an illness or reaction has been confirmed, so this report does not infer one.
