Dehradun rain tragedy: two dead and one rescued after SUV is swept near Kandoli Bridge
DEHRADUN, September 1 — Two people died and a young woman was rescued after a sport-utility vehicle carrying three occupants was swept into a powerful rainwater current near Kandoli Bridge on Poundha Road in Dehradun’s Prem Nagar area, according to reports citing the State Disaster Response Force.
The emergency unfolded late Monday in Lower Kandoli as persistent rain affected the district. An SDRF team from Dakpatthar, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Suresh Tomar, joined the search in difficult conditions.
What rescuers established
The woman who survived was located roughly two kilometres downstream from the point where the vehicle entered the water. She was brought out alive and reported injured. Searchers subsequently recovered the bodies of the other two occupants, meaning all three people reported in the vehicle had been accounted for.
One of those who died was publicly identified in the initial reporting as Akshay, 20, from Jaipur. The second deceased person was described as a young woman whose identity had not been released in the accounts checked for this report. Their bodies were handed to police for the required legal and post-mortem procedures.
The vehicle was described as a Creta in an SDRF-sourced account. EnvoyPost is withholding further personal detail that has not been publicly confirmed by authorities.

People should not attempt to drive across flowing water, even if the surface appears shallow or a familiar road is visible beneath it. Water can conceal a damaged road edge, and the force acting on a vehicle rises quickly with depth and speed.
