In a breathtaking World Cup Match 21 encounter, India continued their supreme run by defeating New Zealand in HPCA stadium Dharamsala, and claimed the pole position in the ten-team points table. This victory marked India’s fifth win in as many matches, showing there recent accomplishment. 

The match began with Rohit Sharma winning the toss and choose to bowl, a decision that mark India’s fifth consecutive match in which they would be chasing a target. Their opening bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami, made early strike into the New Zealand batting lineup. Siraj has taken a, wicket of Devon Conway, while Shami dismissed Will Young with his very first delivery, setting the tone for India’s bowling performance.

Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell then took charge for New Zealand, putting pressure on India with contentious play against the spinners, especially Kuldeep Yadav. Their partnership reached 159 off 152 balls before Shami claimed the crucial wicket of Ravindra for 73 runs. Mitchell went on to score his fifth ODI century, but India managed to slow down the New Zealand run flow after breaking the partnership.

The turning point of the match came in the last 10 overs when Mohammed Shami led India’s fightback with a remarkable five-wicket drag. His exceptional bowling performance smash the New Zealand batting lineup, and the Kiwis were eventually bowled out for 270.

India’s aim the target began positively, as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a solid foundation with a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket. Captain Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer continued the momentum, adding 52 runs for the third wicket. Kohli  was involved in another 50-plus partnership, this time with KL Rahul. His 69th ODI half-century showcased his class and ability to anchor the innings.

Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with the bat, add up 50-plus partnership with Kohli. These partnerships ensured that India remained in control of the chase, eventually securing victory by four wickets.

With this win, India’s dominance in the World Cup has been solidified, and they now sit at the top of the points table. Their performance, marked by excellent bowling by Mohammed Shami has been named as man of the match and his strong partnerships in the batting, is a testimony  to their World Cup aspiration. As the tournament progresses, India’s competitors will need to step up their game to challenge the team that has claimed pole position and is marching confidently toward the desired for World Cup trophy.
