‘The latest evolution’: PWHL unveils game jerseys with team names, logos | EnvoyPost

The Professional Women’s Hockey League unveiled game uniforms carrying the names and logos of its six teams on November 7, 2024, completing a major part of the league’s transition from temporary city-based identities in its first season.

The Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres were scheduled to wear the new designs when the PWHL’s second season opened on November 30.

Six teams, six visual identities

Boston’s deep-green jersey used blue accents and wave-like striping connected to the Fleet name. Minnesota paired deep purple with white and lighter purple for the Frost. Montréal’s burgundy Victoire design added navy and bright blue, with fleur-de-lys details in the numbers.

New York used navy, orange and grey geometric patterns inspired by the Sirens crest. Ottawa’s red Charge jersey included grey and electric-yellow elements, while Toronto used a rich blue base with navy and gold for the Sceptres. The number styles were customised to reinforce each crest rather than using one generic league template.

Why the names arrived after the league

The PWHL began play in January 2024 on an accelerated launch timetable. Teams initially competed under city names and standard league jerseys while permanent brands were developed. The league announced the six team names and crests in September 2024 and followed with uniforms in November.

That sequence allowed professional women’s hockey to return quickly after the creation of a unified league, but it also meant fans spent the first season without conventional club identities. The second-season launch gave teams symbols that could be used consistently on broadcasts, merchandise and community programmes.

Bauer supplied game and replica jerseys

Bauer served as the exclusive provider of official game and replica home jerseys. The PWHL said the garments used breathable, durable material and a fit designed for movement and physical play. The league worked with the creative agency Flower Shop on the wider identity system.

Replica availability and price are commercial details that can change. Fans should distinguish an authentic game jersey, an official replica and unofficial merchandise and use current team or league shops when authenticity matters.

Branding is important, but performance decides durability

Names and jerseys help supporters build recognition and give sponsors and broadcasters stable assets. They cannot by themselves establish a sustainable league. Attendance, media access, player conditions, youth engagement, competitive quality and responsible expansion remain more meaningful long-term measures.

Uniforms can also evolve. Anniversary patches, alternate designs, supplier changes or relocation do not make the November 2024 announcement false; they place it at a particular stage in the league’s development. Readers looking for current colours and rosters should use the PWHL’s latest team pages.

The article’s phrase “latest evolution” referred to the move from inaugural-season city markings to full permanent club identities. It should not be interpreted as the first time these athletes had team names in professional hockey or as evidence that every player or fan approved each design. Public reaction to branding is inevitably subjective.
